On the edge of Indiana Dunes State Park…

…is a beautiful woodland home occupied by two gentle Labradors and two humans who all love life.

We remodeled the kitchen in 2016, and then in 2018 we finished the library and redid the mudroom, stairs, mantel, and a built-in display cabinet.  In keeping with the prior remodel and with the home’s Arts and Crafts style, we continued the use of quarter sawn white oak with a full overlay, stained in beautiful Michael’s Cherry.

The library features a balance of open shelving and cabinets with appliqued upper trim. No detail was overlooked as we built in spaces for an entertainment center and mini fridge.  A glass-shelved corner case adds a dedicated place for displaying family photos and mementos, and recessed lighting provides gentle illumination.

On the staircase we installed railings and paneling, with an open-backed bench along the landing.  In-seat storage adds extra function to this inviting perch.

Clean lines and quality materials were all it took for the fireplace mantel to become a focal point that looks as though it’s always been there.  Stained glass doors and a lighted display niche grace a built-in display case nearby.

The theme continues throughout the home with distinctive vanities and cabinetry in two bathrooms, and a charming little corner bench that doubles as storage in the mudroom.

We are a family of six, and over the years we have built our home.  I say years, not because the creation of a home ends at its construction, but continues long after.  Every new layer of paint on the walls, every new etch and scratch on a wood or tile floor, and every piece of furniture added to a house builds a home over and over again.  And I think our home is well lived in, and well loved.  Before Andrew began working with us, our kitchen was almost twenty years old, and it looked the part.  It was time for a change.  Some of the older and more cherished pieces of furniture in our house are Mission style, and Andrew summoned inspiration from the Arts and Crafts style of our home.  Our table, chairs, and cabinetry in the kitchen and bathrooms are masterfully constructed Mission style woodworks and they tie our home together better than ever.  A home is a beautiful place.  It’s where we feel safest and relaxed with the ones we love the most.  Andrew has made us feel at home – again.  We are forever grateful for his amazing talent and abilities.
